Support at Home Program FAQs
Frequently Asked GoCo Care Client Questions
Support at Home Program FAQs: The Australian Government is introducing the Support at Home Program on 1 November 2025. This page answers common questions GoCo clients may have about how the changes will affect your aged care services, financial contributions, and ongoing support.
What is the Support at Home Program?
The Support at Home Program is a new aged care initiative from the Australian Government starting 1 November 2025. It aims to simplify and streamline the way aged care services are delivered at home, giving older Australians more choice and flexibility in how they receive support.
This new program will eventually replace the current Home Care Package and Commonwealth Home Support Programme.

Will I lose my current services?
No — your current aged care support will continue. GoCo is committed to ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition. We’ll work closely with you to make sure your services continue with minimal disruption.
What if I have unspent funds with my current services?
There are new rules about unspent funds. From 1 July, your funding will be allocated for you to use on a quarterly basis. If you do not use all your funding within that quarter, you can roll over up to $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly government funding, whichever is higher. Importantly, any other funds you do not use in that quarter will be returned to the Government.
If you currently have unspent funds, under your current home care package, you can use these to pay for some services.
Do I need to reapply for aged care services?
No. There’s no need to reapply. My Aged Care will contact you if any updates are required. Your care plan will carry over and evolve as the new program is introduced.
If you’re unsure or have questions, your GoCo care partner is here to help guide you.
What’s the difference between Grandfathered, Transitional, and new clients?
Understanding your status under the Support at Home rollout:
- Grandfathered clients: You’ll continue receiving your current services under the existing system for a set period. When it’s time to transition, we’ll support you every step of the way.
- Transitional clients: If you were assessed before 12 September 2024, you may begin under the current system but shift into the new framework once it begins.
New clients: Anyone entering the aged care system after 12 September 2024 will be assessed and supported directly under the new Support at Home Program.
Will I have to contribute more financially under the new program?
Under the My Aged Care Support at Home Program, there may be changes to how much you are asked to contribute toward the cost of your care, depending on your financial circumstances. These contributions are designed to be fair and based on your ability to pay.
Grandfathered Clients
From 1 July, you will no longer be required to pay a regular income tested care fee. Instead, you will be required to contribute to the costs of some of the services you receive, at a rate that is equivalent to or less than the income tested care fee that you currently pay. Services Australia will calculate this and tell you the rate that applies.
Transitioning and New Clients
Because you were assessed for care after 12 September 2024, you are required to start paying a contribution towards some of your services. Clinical services won’t attract a contribution but services that fall in the “independence” and “everyday living” categories (such as personal care and cleaning) will attract a contribution. The rates for these are set by the Government.
How will my contribution be assessed?
Services Australia will complete an income assessment to determine your aged care fees. This review looks only at your income — not the value of your home or other assets.
The results will be shared with GoCo so we can ensure your care plan remains affordable and appropriate.
What if I can’t afford to pay?
If you’re experiencing financial hardship, there are hardship provisions available. You may be eligible for assistance or reduced fees.

Will GoCo still be my provider?
Yes — unless you choose to change providers, GoCo will continue supporting you. We are working with the new system and will manage the transition on your behalf.
